Brent Lausterer has been appointed director of sales for the Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau (MVCB), effective June 4, according to Maui Now's announcement. Lausterer will oversee group and leisure sales efforts across Maui, Moloka‘i, and Lāna‘i. This appointment comes at a crucial time for Maui's tourism sector, which is actively working to recover and rebuild visitor confidence following recent challenges.
Lausterer brings over 25 years of experience in Hawaii's hospitality industry to his new role. The Maui Visitors & Convention Bureau plays a vital role in promoting the destination and managing tourism impacts, working with the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority to attract responsible visitors. His leadership will be instrumental in driving sales, attracting responsible visitors, and supporting efforts to improve both the resident and visitor experience.
This appointment supports ongoing initiatives, such as the recent launch of a $6 million Maui Emergency Marketing Campaign. As detailed in Maui Now's report, the campaign, spearheaded by the Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau, aims to restore visitor confidence and boost travel demand, with Maui visitor arrivals still trailing pre-pandemic levels.
With a focus on destination management and stewardship, the MVCB is also involved in identifying areas of need and implementing actionable solutions for enhancing the quality of life for residents and improving the visitor experience. The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority's Strategic Plan highlights the importance of natural resources, Hawaiian culture, community, and brand marketing in driving tourism.
