Honolulu commuters and businesses operating near Nimitz Highway are advised of upcoming road closures that will affect accessibility and travel times. According to a recent announcement by KHON2, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) will be closing access to the Bethel Street and Nu‘uanu Avenue intersections with Nimitz Highway on the night of December 19th.

The closures will run from 6 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day, requiring motorists to find alternative routes. The work is related to the construction of the Honolulu Rail Transit project. During this overnight closure, the HART contractor will be pouring concrete shafts. Two through lanes on Nimitz Highway in each direction will remain open. The State of Hawai’i Department of Transportation also reported the closures, and provided a link to the full list of HART-related closures.

Businesses located near the affected intersections, such as those relying on deliveries or customer traffic, should proactively communicate with their staff and customers to manage potential disruptions. Planning ahead and allowing for extra travel time will be crucial for those navigating the area during the closure. Additionally, the HDOT website provides resources for up-to-date information on lane closures across the state, which can be useful for planning business operations as well.
